Kevin believes that effective teaching happens in a collaborative environment. Students, Teachers and Administrators work together to create an environment that maximizes learning and minimizes distractive and unsafe behaviors.
Kevin’s Background
Kevin has a B.S. in Chemistry/Biology from Xavier University of New Orleans and a M.S. in Biology from Tennessee State University. He has experience as a Forensic Chemist, Federal Investigator and International Trainer. He is a graduate of the Teach NOLA teacher certification program and was previously recognized as Teacher of the Year (2021) by the International High School of New Orleans. In addition he was selected as a 2021 Shell Science Lab Regional Challenge, Regional Winner. He is certified by the Center for Teaching Excellence (CTE) to teach Classroom Management. He is currently a Middle School Science Teacher in Silver Spring, MD.
Kevin’s Methods
Kevin utilizes CTE Time To Teach methodologies to maximize classroom learning. He creates Lesson Plans that tap into a broad range of student interest and skill sets. He ties in crosscutting concepts such as art, math, engineering, creative writing, communication and music to make learning STEM relevant. He uses hands on activities to make STEM fun and enjoyable to students. He specializes in setting up instructional science gardens and living labs. He encourages students to be creative when solving problems, by using their intuition and acquired scientific knowledge.
